Lila Grallert selected for 21st Century Leaders Award

Lila Grallert ‘14, a Pre-Veterinary Science major (BS) in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and a Sustainable Food and Farming major (BS) in the Stockbridge School is one of only ten graduates selected for the 21st Century Leaders Award presented at the 2014 Commencement Ceremony.

Radhika Goenka's work selected for JEM Magazine cover and T-shirt

Radhika Goenka, who earned her Doctor of Philosphy degree through the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department's Animal Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program in 2008 has had her post-doc research results published in the January 2014 issue Journal of Experimental Medicine.  One of Radhika's microscopy images depicting BLyS producing T cells present in the germinal center was adapted for the cover of the magazine by the artist Emilie Clark and then selected for their 2014 T shirt.

New Animal Science RAP - Residential Academic Program

The Animal Science Majors RAP (Residential Academic Program) provides a unique opportunity for first-year students who have been accepted into the Animal Science program at UMass Amherst to connect with other motivated Animal Science majors, meet faculty, and learn about opportunities within the Veterinary and Animal Sciences department.

Dairy Calf Management Class in the News

Pre-veterinary and animal science students have been caring for 35 dairy calves at Devine Farm in Hadley. Now in its third semester, the hands-on coursework benefits the students, the calves and the farm.

Undergraduate students attend 2014 Wildlife, Aquatics, Zoo & Exotics Symposium at Tufts

Twenty-four Veterinary and Animal Sciences undergraduate students traveled to Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine on Saturday, April 26 to attend the 2014 Wildlife, Aquatics, Zoo & Exotics Symposium.

VASCI Graduate Retreat

The annual VASCI Graduate Retreat will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in room 1634 of the Lederle Graduate Research Tower.  The keynote speaker will be Dr. Sylvie Breton, Professor of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Science Day 2014

The annual Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department Science Day will be held Thursday, May 1 on the fourth floor of the Integrated Sciences Building.  Honors Theses Presentations will begin at 8:15 am in Conference Room 427L.  Lunch will be served at 12:45 pm. Abstracts will be posted.  Posters will be presented from 2:00 - 4:00pm in the Atrium. 

Commencement Celebration

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences will be hosting a Commencement Celebration for all graduating seniors and their families on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 12:00 am to 3:00 pm in the First Floor Atrium of the Integrated Sciences Building.

Dr. Cynthia Baldwin selected as the 2014 Distinguished Lecturer

Dr. Cynthia Baldwin was recently selected as the 2014 Distinguished Lecturer by the Animal Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate program at the University of Florida.  Dr. Baldwin presented “The role of a new family pattern recognition receptor (WC1) in activation of bovine γδ T cells and promotion of vaccine efficacy” at the Twelfth Annual Research Symposium of the Animal Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate program at the University of Florida held in Mount Dora, Florida April 11 &12.

Early Acceptance to Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is very pleased to announce that Katie Wilson ‘16 and Chelsey Mullen ‘16 have been selected for Early Acceptance to Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Katie and Chelsey are two of the four applicants who were selected from the entire applicant pool.

Dr. Salicioni to speak at American Society of Andrology's annual conference

Ana María Salicioni, Ph.D. has been invited to speak at the  Basic Science Workshop on “Assessing Male Reproductive Function in the Laboratory" organized by the American Society of Andrology, on April 5, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Salicioni's presentation will be "Experimental Approaches to Study Phosphorylation Pathways in Sperm Capacitation";  she will speak during Session 3:  New Tools and Approaches to Drug Discovery.
