Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor Job Description:
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (VASCI) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with the goal of preventing the establishment of disease, developing treatments for existing diseases or creating conditions that improve human and animal health. The candidate should have expertise in one of the following areas: T cell receptor function, cancer immunology, infectious diseases or vaccine development, or interaction with microbiota. Applicants with quantitative skills and experience in big data analysis are particularly encouraged to apply. Additionally applicants who use methodologies such as single cell analysis, genomics, proteomics and/or transcriptomics to assess the immune response or develop models to predict immune responses are preferred. The successful applicant is expected to establish an extramurally funded research program and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising, consistent with the teaching responsibilities of our faculty. Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D, D.V.M./Ph.D, or M.D./Ph.D and have developed, or have the potential to establish, a vigorous independent research program in one or more of the designated areas of immunology. Research with a translational component is considered an advantage, as is an interest in veterinary systems, but these are not required.

The appointment will be in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences. The Department has a strong commitment to veterinary and biomedical research and to both undergraduate and graduate education. It is housed in modern research facilities, has an interactive faculty with strengths in immunology, cancer biology, development, and toxicology, excellent core facilities, and is well-integrated into the University of Massachusetts life sciences research community. The immunology group is collaborative with focuses autoimmunity, cancer and infectious diseases; it is well-published and has obtained substantial federal, foundation, and biotech industry funding. Faculty have access to the life science research infrastructure and core facilities of the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) (see http://www.umass.edu/ials/core-facilities for more details). IALS and the UMass Amherst campus are committed to the development of translational research programs and to fostering interactions with industry.
