Virtual Screening of "Picture A Scientist"

Dipika Nandi, Doctoral Student in the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department is hosting a Virtual Screening of Picture A Scientist, a film by Sharon Shattuck and Ian Cheney. This film follows the research careers of three scientists from different STEM fields: biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring. This film depicts researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. They embark on a journey deep into their own experiences in their respective fields, overcoming harassment, institutional discrimination, and years of subtle slights to revolutionalize the culture of science. New perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable and open to all will be discussed. You can watch the TRAILER here. This event is sponsored by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

You can REGISTER for the event to receive the personal access key, which will allow you to watch the film anytime you like from September 27 - 30, 2020. There is no limit to the number of viewers so feel free to send it to anyone who might be interested.

Dipika has arranged for a Panel Discussion on October 1, 2020, 11 am - 12 pm via zoom. This panel discussion will allow those interested to share their views regarding the film, and to discuss Women in STEM as a community. The College of Natural Sciences Dean Tricia Serio will be part of the panel, as well as representatives from the BTP and CBI training programs. Personal access key with registration via @UMASS.EDU.
