The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is pleased to announce the 2016 Scholarship Awards.

2016 Graduate Retreat

Dr. Florian Schmidt,a post-doctoral fellow from the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research will be the keynote speaker for the 2016 Graduate Retreat on Monday, June 6 at the Montague Retreat Center.  Dr. Schmidt's talk is titled “Alpaca Nanobodies as Tools to Study the Cell Biology of the Immune System.”

Science Day will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016

Science Day will include short oral presentations from Departmental Honors students in the morning, followed by poster presentations from undergraduates doing independent studies projects with Departmental Faculty in the afternoon. All VASCI students are welcome to attend.

Kathleen Arcaro awarded Fulbright Fellowship for 2015-16

Kathleen Arcaro, Veterinary and Animal Sciences, is one of seven UMass Amherst faculty members awarded Fulbright Fellowships for 2015-16,  Arcaro, who studies molecular toxicology, will spend four months at Yeditepe University in Atasehir, Turkey, where she will research using breast milk to detect risk of breast cancer and new detection methods and therapies for breast cancer.

Dr. Bassa wins Wagner Award

Lotfi M. Bassa, has won the Professor Heldebert Wagner Award from the journal Phytomedicine, for the best article by a young researcher published in it between July 2014 and January 2016.  Bassa earned his Ph.D. in Animal Biotechnology & Biomedical Sciences in 2015.

Dr. Ana Maria Salicioni, of the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department, attended the Kick-off Meeting of the “European Joint Doctorate in Biology and Technology of Reproductive Health” Consortium held February 1-2, 2016 at the University of Murcia, Spain.
