I graduated from UMass in 1997, with a degree in pre-veterinary science. After graduation I started working for Advanced Cell Technology. ACT is a biotechnology company that was located on the UMass campus and our primary interest at that time was cloning cattle. Shortly after I joined the team we announced the first cloned transgenic cattle created, named George and Charlie. I worked at ACT for 5 years, until returning to UMass to start teaching. In 2002, a lecturer position opened and I thought that this would be a great way to combine my love of the agricultural industries and science. Through teaching I am able to pass on my passion for agriculture and the animal industries. I believe that you get out what you put in. I put a lot of energy and thought into my classes and I hope that the students will feel my enthusiasm for the subject and take the knowledge with them for the rest of their time here and wherever they go. I want students to leave my classes with a better understanding of the world around them and the role that, agricultural plays in all of our lives.
I am the faculty advisor for the Belted Galloway Group. In 2003 we got our first 9 animals from Aldermere Farm and through the years I have seen the herd grow.

It is a student run group, so the students make the management decisions about the animals and preform all of the procedures. I think that working with the cattle gives the students a lot of confidence. It is also a way for them to practice problem solving and working in a group environment.
