It is my belief that teaching and advising compliment one another in the academic environment due to significant discrepancies between student expectations and their actual academic experiences. Each student has different goals, levels of maturity, emotional stability and scholastic abilities. I am available for my advisees both on and off campus. My advising for specific career goals (pre-veterinary, equine, animal science, etc.) is realistic in that my ultimate goal is to make my students marketable in the vocational-professional arena with emphasis upon economic and psychological satisfaction. This is accomplished through innovative and well-structured lectures and some commitment from the student. Any individual can attain a “working” knowledge of a subject. I believe the learning process should be enjoyable and motivational rather than an elimination contest. By teaching five courses in addition to advising, I hope that my influence may become a positive factor in student vocational pursuits and their way of life.
