Dr. Arcaro awarded NCI and Rays of Hope Research Grants

Kathleen Arcaro, Ph.D

Dr. Arcaro is the primary investigator for the research project titled “Tumor-Specific DNA Methylation: Comparison of Tumor and Non-Tumor Breast Tissue from Bilateral Mastectomies”.  This is also a collaborative project with Dr. Sallie Smith-Schneider at Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute and Dr. Christopher Otis, a pathologist at Baystate Medical Center, both in Springfield, Massachuestts.  The project is possible because of the archived breast tissues available through the Biospecimen Resources and Molecular Analysis Center supervised by Dr. Schneider who will provide the non-tumor breast tissue and a long standing collaboration with Dr. Otis who will provide the breast cancer tissue. Much of the lab work will be conducted by Chelsey Mullen ’16 a student in the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department. The research is funded by a two year $50,000 grant from the Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research.
