81st Annual Bay State Livestock Classic scheduled for April 9, 2016

Student members of the UMass Pre-Veterinary and Animal Sciences Club organize the Bay State Livestock Classic each year. “The Classic” occurs in April and is open to the public. Fun, food, and activities are provided for kids of all ages. Student participants spend a good portion of the spring semester training and fitting the animals that they have chosen to show during the Classic. The event culminates with the selection of the “Premier Showperson.”

The 2016 Bay State Livestock Classic will be Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the UMass Hadley Farm, 111 North Maple Street, Hadley, Massachusetts.

There will be four classes of animal shows to attend: Goats, Sheep, Horses and Cows. The Boer Goat Management and Dorset Sheep Management Classes are hosting a petting zoo with baby kids and lambs.

A special demonstration by the UMass Mounted Police will be presented during the lunch hour.

Activities will be running throughout the day including: face painting, arts and crafts, a butter churning station and a tie-dye tent (shirts will be available for purchase). Raffles tickets (cash or checks accepted) will be sold to win items donated by local businesses and families.

This is a great opportunity for children to learn about livestock and agriculture through our informational booths and hands on activities.

Admission and parking are free. Food will be sold by Baby Berk and will be available throughout the day.
